Toxic Lover

A Poem

You complete me-
you make me whole.
You’re the missing half
to my broken soul.

To be wrapped up in you-
that’s all I ever want to do.
This is what I knew to be true.

You gave me love
you put me above-
I thought we were right.
You showed me new light.

I was wrong the whole time
You weren’t meant to be mine.
With all of your lies and deceit,
It was time for us to fleet.

I thought we should separate.
But you were too desperate.
So time after time,
Singing your rhyme,
You convinced me to come back
You fed off the confidence I lack.

With this knowledge, you took over.
Blinded, I never noticed the harm
as you enticed me with your charm.

You’ll say I’m to blame,
and I’ll accept it with no shame.
As I leave you one last time,
remember my love is mine.

You are not the one for me,
so why can’t you let me be?

Never again will I fall into a trap.
I will never believe the polished crap.
I now make it my task
to see behind your mask.

Boundaries must be set
for my love to be met.
